- Released on Mar 25, 2010

During Spring Break 2010 two groups of students visited the Soltis Center. One of the groups was the Mays School Regents Scholars led by Dr. Linda Windle, Associate Director of Undergraduate Programs, Mays Business School. This group of 13 students had short working sessions at the Center and meetings with local business people, including two of the Center’s board members Mr. Alejandro Rivas, President of the Costa Rica Former Aggie Association and Mr. Curt Clemenson. In addition, they also visited the Arenal Volcano National Park and hot springs, among others. The MSC FISH group visited the Soltis Center for the second consecutive year to get an international service and learning experience at the Soltis Center. Throughout the week, the 32 person group led by Jamie Stephens, Assistant Director, MSC Freshmen in Service and Hosting and Luke J. Altendorf, Director, Memorial Student Center, taught English as a second language and internet training tools at the local school. For three of the days the students established English camps at the school to help local school children improve their language skills. Furthermore, using the recently inaugurated Intelligent Community Center, they offered classes on the use of internet to students and professors from the local high school. Additionally, this MSC Fish group helped to start the plant reference collection for the Center. The students created a daily web blog where they daily posted about their experiences.
