Texas A&M Meets with Mexican Secretary of Energy

On August 24, 2010, a delegation led by Dr. John Niedzwecki from Texas A&M´s Dwight Look College of Engineering met with Mexico´s Secretary of Energy, Dr. Georgina Kessel in Mexico City. The meeting’s purpose was to understand Mexico’s priorities for scientific research related to energy and to establish a mechanism for guiding collaboration in this area between Texas A&M, Mexico’s Ministry of Energy, the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), the Mexican Academy of Engineering, and other institutions. As a foundation, Texas A&M and UNAM have been working together to set up dual Ph.D. programs in petroleum, civil, and chemical engineering. Also participating in the meeting were the Mexican Undersecretaries of Hydrocarbons, Energy Planning and Technological Development, and Electricity; the Provost and an engineering faculty member from UNAM; and a representative of the Mexican Academy of Engineering, along with Dr. José Roesset and Dr. Zenon Medina-Cetina of Texas A&M’s College of Engineering. The meeting was arranged by the Office of Latin American Programs and coordinated by our Mexico Center, and TAMU’s Drs. Roger Norton and Jennifer Brown also participated.
